Baklava is one of the most beloved and special desserts in Turkish cuisine. This syrupy treat, made by layering thinly rolled phyllo dough with plenty of walnuts or pistachios, is famous for its crispy texture and rich flavor.

Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup liquid oil
- ½ cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ cup water (add gradually)
For the Filling:
- 2 cups finely ground walnuts or Antep pistachios
For Rolling:
- 1 cup starch (wheat or cornstarch)
For the Syrup:
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 3 cups water
- Juice of ½ lemon
For Topping:
- 200g butter
- ½ cup liquid oil
Instructions:

Prepare the Syrup: Boil sugar and water, then add lemon juice and boil for another 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Prepare the Dough: Mix all ingredients except flour. Gradually add flour and knead until you have a soft, non-sticky dough.

Rest the dough for 30 minutes, then divide it into 20 equal balls.

Roll out each ball into very thin phyllo sheets using starch to prevent sticking.

Grease a baking tray and layer the first 10 phyllo sheets, brushing each with melted butter.

Spread the filling (walnuts or pistachios) evenly over the phyllo sheets.

Layer the remaining 10 phyllo sheets, brushing each with melted butter.

Cut the baklava into squares or diamond shapes.

Melt the remaining butter and pour it evenly over the baklava.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 40–45 minutes until golden brown.

Pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.

Let it rest for at least 4 hours to absorb the syrup.
Serving Suggestions
Serve baklava at room temperature or chilled. Sprinkle extra crushed pistachios on top for added flavor. For a special touch, serve with ice cream or clotted cream.
